What is the Melbourne RV Story?
The Hunter Family, as a retail outlet for Sunliner Campervans and the emerging Sunliner Motorhome products, established Melbourne RV in the early1980s. Originally, the dealership was located in Ringwood amongst the automotive-retailing precinct known as Car City. The move to the current location on Canterbury Road, Bayswater in 2005, established the business amongst other RV specialist retailers. We are still proudly family owned.
What drew you to the RV industry?
I started at 17 years of age, fresh from school, in RV manufacturing; at 22 I was lucky enough to transfer my manufacturing knowledge into a sales role at Melbourne RV. I have been here for over 10 years. The thing I love about my work is the pleasure in helping people fulfil long-held dreams of RV travel. It’s a privilege to be part of these milestone moments in my customer’s lives.
Who works at MRV?
There is myself and, Coulson who is new to the sales team and Ward who is the elder statesman of Melbourne RV, he tells me he has been doing been working here for over 35 years. Steve looks after the service side and has 12 years experience servicing Sunliner’s.
Which is your favourite Sunliner model and layout?
I’m a big fan of the Switch 505 on an Iveco 50C. I think this layout/ chassis combination is practical and incredibly flexible. With a drop bed at the back over a u-shaped dinette you get this great lounge area with fantastic natural light. If you go for the sleeper peak you can add the option of extra accommodation, and the forward facing seats at the front are suitable for child restraints if you need the flexibility of carrying extra passengers. Being built on an Iveco 50C there is the option to upgrade the GVM and the chassis can take a tow bar to bring along a few toys! This motorhome can suit a lot of different combination of users.
What is your favourite RV destination or event?
Bermagui, NSW It is a small fishing town on the beautiful Sapphire Coast. There are lovely beaches, coastal walks and great fishing – it feels a little “undiscovered”. There is a great campground just opposite the beach and only one block from town. The pub and RSL have good food and that traditional Aussie charm, I have always felt welcome there. My favourite thing to do is to go down as the fishing boats are coming in to buy fresh seafood – it never tastes as good anywhere else.
